Program Manager Emilio Carrasquillo joined a panel on Latino Homeownership hosted by Northeastern Illinois University. This event covered the state of Latino homeownership, barriers to Latino homeownership as well as wealth building, property tax reform, housing policy and gentrification. . . .

For Chicagoans of color, the path to homeownership has become even more rocky. Higher interest rates combined with increasing home prices make affordability harder. 
Programs across the city are trying to ease the path. Classes are available to help to prepare prospective homeowners for the homebuying journey.  There’s assistance for those who qualify for grants that ease the sting of large down payments and monthly mortgage costs . . .

In May, Belmont Cragin on the city’s Northwest Side was a Chicago epicenter for COVID-19, with nearly 2,000 cases in its major ZIP code.
